Thomas D. Lombaer, age 78, a resident of San Jose, CA, passed away March 5, 2021. He was born January 5, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Donald & Mary Lombaer.

Tom's mother, Mary, was born in Austria in 1918, and immigrated to the United States in the mid 1930's just prior to the Nazi occupation. This led to Tom's interest in genealogy and tracing his family history. He worked as an electrical engineer for IBM for over 30 years. Tom was an avid chess player and routinely competed in tournaments. In retirement, he was a judge for robotic competitions & was a volunteer for PBS' Antique Roadshow when it came to San Jose.

He is survived by his sister Donna (Richard) Bauer.

He was preceded in death by his brother Steven Lombaer and his parents.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home , 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, Illinois 60187. Relatives and friends are invited to view a livestream of the service: Thomas Lombaer Funeral Service .  Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, Illinois .

In lieu of flowers, live plants that can be transplanted are preferred.
