Sally Bonson's Obituary

We are saddened and relieved that Sally Bonson (Olive Cook Bonson) passed peacefully into eternity on September 18, 2020 at the age of 95 after suffering a devastating stroke earlier this summer. She was born on February 17, 1925 in Valparaiso, Indiana to Edna and George Cook,
the youngest of their four beloved children. She cherished and shared happy memories of her childhood and her great love for each of her siblings, their children, her cousins and their children. She found her passion in Evangelical Christianity and as a young, single woman she set off by ship for Japan as a missionary. She had many wonderful adventures in Japan which she documented in her beautiful scrapbooks. One of her adventures was to meet and marry Lt. Col. John C. (Chuck) Bonson. She loved his family as her own. She and Chuck had two children who had the great privilege of growing up in Japan as they continued to work as missionaries there until 1975. They were blessed to make many, many dear friends among the missionaries and Japanese people they came to know. After returning to the States, she worked for Wheaton College where she gathered many dear, lifelong friends. After Chuck died she was so happy to be able to live at Windsor Park - a Christian retirement facility her beloved husband had served on the original board for and had been so excited about. She delighted in time spent with family and friends, especially with her grandchildren Ashly and Arlen, her children Bob and Betty, their spouses Nancy and Marshall and Ashly's Alex. Along with her friend Lil, she doted on her dogs Peppi and then Coco who gave her so much joy. She leaves many cherished friends and family members to delight in their memories of her. She would want to express profound gratitude to all of the people who cared for her these past years, and especially to those who cared for her in hospice. She often imagined the thrill of arriving in Heaven to meet Jesus, be reunited with Chuck, her mom and dad, and many other dear family and friends. May it be. A service to celebrate her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to TEAM ministries.
