Obituary

Roger Gleason, age 91, a resident of Wheaton, IL, and a longtime resident of Warrenville, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022.  He was born April 29, 1931, to Albert and Alberta Gleason.

Roger grew up in St. Charles where he met his wife Diane nee Paulson. They married in 1953 when he was serving in the Air Force in Amarillo Texas. Afterward they moved to Wheaton, Il where they raised their family. Roger started working at Wheaton Bowl in the mid 1950's and soon became the manager, serving there for many years. He was an avid league bowler himself and enjoyed both hosting and traveling to numerous bowling tournaments. In the early 1980's Roger bought King Pin Lanes in Fox River Grove and operated that business until he retired in 2000. After Roger retired, they downsized and moved to Maple Hill in Warrenville where they met many new friends and thoroughly enjoyed living near the pool!

Roger and Diane were blessed with grandchildren in Wheaton and Colorado. They traveled often to see their grandsons near the Rocky Mountains and were lucky to have granddaughters in Wheaton. Roger wanted to live long enough to see them all graduate from high school which he achieved with years to spare.

A constant in Roger's life was his love of sports and he could spend hours watching golf, baseball, and football. The Cubs were his #1 team from an early age and watching them win the World Series in 2016 was a highpoint that he had feared would never happen! This year has been disappointing but he loyally still listened to every game. Golf was his second love and he played even when he could no longer see the ball but he had friends that would watch his ball for him.

The years brought increasing health challenges but Roger faced them head on and came through to keep fighting on a little longer. His love of a good joke, a great steak, the Cubs, and his family never failed and helped him to soldier on. His sense of humor and spirit will be remembered and greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Diane, three children, Sue (Mark Hottmann) Gleason of Madison WI, Paul (Sara) Gleason of Colorado, and Laurie (Dave) King of Wheaton, six grandchildren, Megan, Melissa (Jake), Madeline (Kendall) and Hannah King and Adam and Joseph Gleason, and one great-granddaughter, Jade Rivera.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Joan, Peggy and Lin.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 9:30 to 11:30 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m.  Interment and military honors will be held privately at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago.
