Rick Lunde, at age 47, was much too young to leave us. He went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 7, 2018 after a difficult and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 25, 1970 in Alameda, California, and spent the first few years of his life in Australia. He and his parents, Christy Nelson and Richard Lunde, moved back to California where Rick spent the rest of his childhood. He graduated high school in San Diego and while there, found a love for surfing. He also graduated from University of Phoenix and served in both the Marine Corps and Coast Guard. During those years, he started a family. He was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Nicole and son, Chris. In 2008, Rick moved to Wheaton, IL to work at First Trust Portfolios. Through his work at the firm, he met Holly and they were married on July 23, 2011. They have spent the last seven years very much in love.
Rick loved to surf, travel, ride motorcycles and go camping, but most important to him was his faith. He had a very strong belief in the Lord and was committed to doing His work. He spent most of life being involved with and attending Calvary Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Hollyce Lunde, two children, Nicole and Christopher, his parents, Richard Lunde and Christy (Dennis) O'Connor, and brother, Matthew Field.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a short funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Immediately after the service, please join us at
Muldoon's
where we can share in snacks, raising a pint in celebration of Rick and sharing stories. In honor of Rick's love of the beach and surfing, if you have a Hawaiian shirt, he would love to see you wear it to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to
DestinyRescue.org
to help fight human trafficking; a cause that both Rick and Holly are passionate about.
