Paul R. Daniels, age 77, a resident of Yorkville, formerly of Wheaton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 21, at home surrounded by his family. He was born July 14, 1941 in Dallas, Texas.
Paul graduated from North Texas State College in 1961, and later earned a Master's degree in banking and finance from the University of North Texas, as well as a CPA and CFA certification. In 1964, Paul joined John Nuveen and Co. in Chicago, where for the next 25 years he mastered the municipal bond business, from underwriting to portfolio management to credit analysis.
In 1983, Paul and his oldest son, Dan, began the business that became Investortools, Inc. He credited to God the idea of building a computer software system for municipal bond portfolio management. Paul worked at Investortools as a consultant, employee, President, Executive Committee Chairman, and then Management Committee Chairman. Paul devoted much of his time to what he considered the Investortools family.
Paul was a former president of the Society of Municipal Analysts, a former president of the Chicago Municipal Analysts Society, and instrumental in the founding of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts. He also served on the boards of Scripture Memory Fellowship and Dallas Christian Academy, as well as a number of homeowner associations. He ran ten marathons over the years, and he and Marcia enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Dominican Republic. One of their favorite experiences was a 3-month Cunard Line world cruise.
Paul's most basic interest was being a serious follower of Jesus Christ. This led to his interest in creation science and his support of the Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY. Because of his strong faith, Paul established Jesus Christ as Investortool's CEO. The plaque on his wall that reads, "Do business until I return," captured his view that we honor and obey God by conducting business with excellence, productivity, and integrity.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marcia Daniels, five children: Dan (Vicki) Daniels of Woodland Park, CO; Dawn (Scott) Womack of Terre Haute, IN; Debbie (Mike) Christie of Plantation, FL; Denise (Craig) Barwell of Seattle, WA; David (Susan) Daniels of Rockville, MD; and informally adopted daughter, Spring (Fonglui) Ng of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
