Patrick Nelms, age 68, a resident of Wheaton, passed away suddenly June 11, 2020, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born January 5, 1952 in Chicago to Lyle Nelms & Eleanor Ferguson.

Pat grew up in Addison, Illinois where he developed many life-long relationships. He attended Addison Trail High School. In 1986 he married Kim Westberry and they went on to have two sons. Patrick was born in 1987 and Sam in 1995. He loved his family and his boys were his whole world. He was very active and attentive to all areas of his sons' lives.

He was a hard worker - he was a self-employed drywaller & painter for many years. Pat was a happy and outgoing friend. He loved a good conversation and a good laugh. He was an especially great story teller. Pat enjoyed helping people and making them smile.

He was an avid fisherman and loved music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica with his friends. He even recorded a few albums. Pat relished in performing magic tricks for kids. He loved all sports and was a coach for Wheaton Youth Baseball for six years.

A special note from Pat's son Sam:

My dearly departed dad was an eccentric, charismatic powerhouse. His impact on my personality is ever present; from the gift of gab to growl of a bass guitar. He was a mythical figure, often coming together with loved ones for jam sessions interspersed by stories that would wind in wild ways; recounting everything in his life from being a transient, hitchhiking hippie, to a hardworking father and husband hanging drywall for a living. He has made an indelible mark on every person whose lives he has touched with his unparalleled uniqueness. All will all miss him immensely. SN

Pat is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan "Kim" Nelms and his sons Patrick & Samuel Nelms. His brothers & sisters: Mike (Cathy) Nelms, Keith (Kathy) Nelms, Kevin Nelms, Steven (Carrie) Nelms, Marybeth Nelms, Colleen Nelms, Peggy (Jim) Nawricki, Kathleen Halpin & Judy (Mike) Cibelli. His brother-in-laws Charles (Paula) Westberry, III, and Jason (Karin) Westberry. Also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents.
