Nancy Wasik's Obituary

Nancy Wasik, age 70, a resident of Carol Stream, IL, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 4, 2019.  She was born in Chicago, IL, on March 2, 1949 to Walter and Melva "Kelly" Gailius.

Nancy was from a small family, but had loved many and was loved BY many. Having grown up in the "little village" neighborhood of Chicago, Nancy always enjoyed sharing tales from her childhood, keeping us entertained at family gatherings with all kinds of crazy stories from yesteryear. It was even through sickness that she managed to touch the hearts of those around her, including those of various medical staff who provided care during her last days. Always good for a laugh with a dose of sarcasm for good measure, she made some of the hard days a little bit lighter. And while some days had proven tougher and darker than others, she looked upon the Lord for comfort and strength, reminding herself and others that while her troubles were many, her Lord was BIGGER.

Nancy also had a hard working spirit that would carry her through various companies and administrative positions. It was some time after graduating Farragut High School in the late 60's that she began her working career with Sears, Roebuck and Company. From there on she held positions at Aldens Catalog Company, office of Illinois Speaker of the House, Rockwell International/MAN Roland and BBDP, Inc.  It was then at Morgan Stanley in 2013 that she retired as a payroll analyst. She enjoyed her work and enjoyed being of service to others without feeling the need to climb the corporate ladder, even though she was offered the opportunity. To her, strengthening her skills and talents in whatever position she was in meant the difference between providing excellent service versus satisfactory service.

While Nancy wasn't busy with work and raising family, she enjoyed many adventurous travels and hobbies.  Whitewater rafting, camping, golfing, skiing, barefoot cruises and other miscellaneous jaunts kept her list full. One of her last trips was to Ireland, which became a quick favorite. During her later years she simply enjoyed the company of loved ones over a good meal, good television and maybe an old classic movie. She also loved a good ol' game of Yahtzee or any other game that would bring family and loved ones together. She also had a great love for various animals, wild or domesticated, owning a pet monkey at one time. Nancy also loved to dance and listen to live music. It was at the old Alumni Club in Chicago where she met and danced her way into Philip Wasik Sr.'s heart. They had later married in January of 1973.

Nancy is survived by her two children, Philip Wasik Jr. of Carol Stream and Stacey Marek of Bloomingdale, along with many other friends and extended family.
