Linda Williams, age 79, a lifelong lover of gardening and poetry, died on Friday, August 5, 2022. She was born in 1942 to Benjamin and Margaret and grew up in Runnemede, New Jersey.

Linda graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois in 1964 with a B.A. in English Literature, followed by an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Illinois. She taught for three years at the University of Indianapolis. She loved poetry, especially that of George Herbert and Mary Oliver, and in Rochester, New York, taught poetry independently to groups of interested individuals. For nineteen years Linda was a proofreader, copyeditor, then Senior Editor at McDougal-Littell, a publisher of high school textbooks in Evanston, IL. She was a longtime member of St. Giles Episcopal Church in Northbrook, IL, where she was in the choir, a member of the vestry, and led Quiet Days during Lent. She spent countless hours designing and tending to her garden brimming with flowers at her home in Deerfield, IL. Those who knew her remember her as a kind and gentle person.

She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty-seven years, Cliff; her daughter, Laura; her brother David; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, IL, on Thursday, September 8, at 3:00 pm with a visitation beginning at 2:00 pm. The service at the funeral home will be live-streamed via this link:

An additional memorial service will be held at St. Giles Episcopal Church, 3025 Walters Avenue in Northbrook, IL, on Friday, September 9, at 2:00 pm, where Linda's ashes will be buried in the St. Giles Memorial Garden.
