Irene J.
Jones
June 14, 1927 – November 7, 2021
Ms. Irene J. Jones-June 14, 1927-November 7, 2021, of Franciscan Court, West Chicago.
Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was devoted to each of these roles.
Irene was the daughter of the late Charles H. Griffith Jr. & Agnes Trusane of Chicago. She graduated from Amundsen High School, Class of '45, Irene was a proud member of the Youth For Christ Band (Clarinetist) 1941-45. She enjoyed music throughout her life.
After leaving her home in Chicago in 1951 she moved across the United States, from San Francisco, CA, (1951) to Wharton, New Jersey, (1971), and many places in between. The first thing she would do after moving into a new community was to find a good church and a library.
Among the organizations she enjoyed belonging to were Pioneer Girls Troop Leader (Chesterton, Indiana), Child Evangelism Instructor (Butler, Pennsylvania) and Crisis Pregnancy (Villa Park, Illinois). She was always an active member of her church and volunteered for many activities including Vacation Bible School, discipling, and cooking for church events. She had a kind heart and was always willing to assist anyone in need. When faced with adversity she would brace herself and quote, "...I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content", Philippians 4:11.
An avid reader of poetry, Irene enjoyed the works of Whitman, Longfellow and Tennyson. In recent years she looked forward to the Goodman Theatre's 'A Christmas Carol' annual production.
In midlife she was employed as an office clerk for Carson, Pirie, Scott & Co. (Hillside, Illinois), 1979-82, and Illinois Auto Electric Co. (Elmhurst, Illinois) 1982-1992.
Irene was preceded in passing by her grandson Alex Rettinger.
She is survived by her daughter Kate (Robert) Rettinger and son Andrew Agnew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Caring Network, 1200 Roosevelt Road, Suite 114, Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137.
