Geraldine Kraupner, age 91, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, and formerly of Forest Park, died April 16, 2019. She was born on January 1, 1928 as Jaroslava Mareck in Roundnice, Czechoslovakia to Jaroslav and Marie Mareck.
In 1949, she escaped from Czechoslovakia to Germany where she married Boris Kraupner in 1950. After the birth of two children, Ingrid and Bobby, the emigrated to the United States in November of 1956. They lived in Chicago where a third child, Patricia, was born. In 1959, they built a home in Round Lake where their youngest child, Charles was born. In 1975, they moved back to Chicago and then to Forest Park in 1989. She worked as a sales clerk at Carson, Pirie Scott and then with husband at Sargent & Lundy Engineering in Chicago. After retiring, she and Boris enjoyed travel and took many trips back to Czechoslovakia to see family.
Geraldine was an outgoing and positive person who had a calming personality. She enjoyed swimming and loved to cook and bake. She and Boris were active with the Czech National Council in Chicago and were proud of their heritage. Most of all, she loved to be with her family.
She is survived by her children, Ingrid (John) Stevens of Flossmoor, Bob Kraupner of Chicago, Patricia (Larry) LaVoie of Carol Stream and Charles (Samantha) Kraupner Yorkville, seven grandchildren, Kelly, Jason, Jeffrey, Michael, Brian, Katherine and Amanda, and four great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Mollie, Atticus and Søren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004 and her parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Windsor Park Benevolent Fund.
