Frederick W. Wallitsch, Sr., age 92, a resident of Wyndemere in Wheaton, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022. He was born December 1, 1929 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Ludwig & Mary Wallitsch.
Fred served in the US Army Honor Guard at the White House under President Harry S. Truman. After the Army, Fred attended Lehigh University, Penn State College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology earning his degrees in Mechanical and Electrical engineering along with his Masters in Business Administration as a Sloan Fellow. He worked for Western Electric, now AT&T, for the duration of his career. Highlights of his career included overseeing the construction and opening of the Network Software Center in Lisle IL and capping off his career as the Vice President of Technology for the joint venture of AT&T and the Dutch company, NV Philips in Amsterdam . Technology innovations under Fred's leadership included the development of the original cellular telephone and the 911 emergency system. Fred served on several boards for educational and community institutions including Benedictine College in Lisle, IL, Edwards Hospital in Naperville, St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville, and Bethesda S chool for Boys in Savannah, GA. In his free time, he was an avid sports fan supporting the Chicago Bulls, Bears, and Cubs and his alma mater Penn State Nittany Lions. He loved to play golf and bridge, woodwork and build ing model train railroads. Most importantly, he was a devoted and faithful husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Mary Jane; his children Cindy (Bob Walesa) Barry, Frederick (Jeri) Wallitsch, Jr., Donna (Dennis) Johnson, Mark (Susan) Wallitsch, & Jackie (Matt) Bedore; his special niece Lynda (Brian) Crawford; his grandchildren Brian (Macy) Walesa, Jenny (fiancé Brian) Walesa, Sean (Inok) Wallitsch, Lauren (Moe) Aguilar, Kelly (Zac) Bever, Kris (Karen) Johnson, Franke Wallitsch, Lucy (Andrew) Hill, Julian Wallitsch, Paige Bedore, Hope Bedore, Tristan Bedore, Pierce (fiancée Brekken) Crawford, Haley Crawford & Chase Crawford; his great-grandchildren Soraya Wallitsch, Roman Aguilar & Dax Bever.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ludwig (the late Elsie) Wallitsch, his sister Cecilia Wallitsch, his niece Eleanor Hagemes and his nephew Bill (Cookie) Wallitsch.
A visitation will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 310 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Wednesday, August 31, 2022,from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery in Naperville, Illinois.
