Dr. Dennis Lee Gibson, age 82, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2019.  He was born August 30, 1937 in Chicago to Murray Lee and Marguerite Gibson.

Dennis grew up in Chicago and graduated from Proviso High School in 1955. At the age of 13, at Honey Rock Camp, he began a lifelong commitment to Christ.  While serving at Westminster Lodge in Saugatuck, MI, he met Ruth Flesvig, who was also working at the camp.  They were married on June 18, 1960.

He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and worked for six years at Dow Chemical in Midland, MI.  While in Midland, he and Ruth started a Young Life club, ministering to high-school students.  His experience with Young Life was so encouraging that he decided to change careers to work with people.  He moved his wife and three sons, to Minnesota where he earned a Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Minnesota.  While there he and Ruth again started a Young Life club.  After graduating, he served a Postdoctoral internship in Norfolk, Nebraska, where they again started a Young Life club.

After teaching at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, he settled his family in Wheaton, IL, where he eventually started Wheaton Counseling Associates, where he touched many lives over 35 years.

While in Wheaton, he was an active member of Wheaton Bible Church and and an active supporter of athletics at Wheaton North High School and the Falcon Fan Club.  He and Ruth also hosted the television show "Positive Living" for over 100 episodes.  He wrote numerous books including, "Live Grow and Be Free", "The Strong Willed Adult", "Vitality Therapy" and with Ruth wrote "The Sandwich Years."  He was invited to teach all over the world, providing seminars in Ecuador, Indonesia, Hong Kong and across the US.

He was a Biblical scholar who never stopped learning.  He was anxious to help people and mentored many.  He spent time with his sons, serving in Indian Guilds and Cub Scouts and in their athletic activities. He was a nature lover and outdoors man.He enjoyed astronomy, canoe trips and he even ran marathons.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth, two sons, Steve Gibson of Mountain View, CA and Dave (Brenda) Gibson of Weaverville, NC, 8 grandchildren, Tatiana, Katia, Nikolas, Hunter Lee, Colton, Jackson, Peyton and Erinn, and one great-grandson, Abner Lee Gibson.  He is also survived by two brothers, Norman (Stephanie) Gibson and Brian (Cheri) Gibson and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was recently preceded in death by his son, Scott , and his brother Howard.

A memorial visitation and service for both Scott and Dennis will be held on Saturday,  January 25, 2020 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Wheaton Bible Church, 27w500 North Ave., West Chicago, IL 60185, with a service following at 11:00 a.m.
