Brian R. T. Frost, age 91, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born September 6, 1926 in London, England to Reginald and Beatrice Frost.
As a young man he was involved in Boy Scouts in England and took many trips across Europe staying at hostels. Brian was athletic and played rugby and competitive rowing. He earned a PhD at Birmingham University in Birmingham, England. Through friends, he met Pamela Heath after a rugby match. They were married on June 5, 1954. After immigrating to the United States in 1969, he began a long career at Argonne National Laboratory. He worked as a Senior Scientist with expertise in nuclear fuels and materials. He wrote and published several books and numerous articles including "Nuclear Fuel Elements," a textbook used by doctoral students. During his career he served on a committee for the National Academy of Science, helped to found the Technology Transfer Program at Argonne, was involved with the Department of Energy, earned an MBA from University of Chicago Business School and traveled to Washington D.C. to obtain funding for various projects. He retired as Director of the Materials Science Division at Argonne.
In retirement he did consulting work for Argonne. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wheaton, the Kiwanis Club of Central DuPage and volunteered at the DuPage Convalescent Center in the art program.
He was an avid sailor and had a love for classical music and art and he was a member of the Art Institute of Chicago for many years. He and Pam enjoyed the concert series at Wheaton College and the Chicago symphony.
He is survived by two children, Carol Rehder of Wheaton and Tim (Fran) Frost of Melbourne, FL, seven grandchildren, Rachel (Trent) Corey, Nathan Landstrom, Bianca Rehder, David Anderson, Jeff Anderson, Mike (Jen) Anderson and Cindy (Shawn) Miles, eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jack, Grace, Grant, Oliver, Acea, Quin and Melissa, two great-great-grandchildren, Naomi and Maddy, one brother, Gerald Frost, one sister-in-law, Yvonne Chapman of Dorchester, England and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, April 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Wheaton Cemetery.
