Barbara Woods
Campbell
July 8, 1946 – August 17, 2022
Barbara Woods Campbell was born July 8, 1946 to Leatha Barlow Woods and Alwyn G. Woods in Washington, DC. She concluded this life on earth and was graduated to her heavenly home on August, 17, 2022 after several years of battling Alzheimer's disease, which robbed her of so much that she enjoyed in life.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years, Kenneth W. Campbell; three daughters, Amy (Michael) Howard, Corrie (Dan) Linsz, and Darcie (Daniel) Lambert; and eight grandchildren, Meiying Howard, Tyler Linsz, Joshua Linsz, Samuel Linsz, Amos Linsz, Robert Lambert, Anna Lambert and Nathaniel Lambert. She is also survived by two siblings, Janet (Tom) Erickson and John (Terri) Woods. Her parents preceded her in death.
Barbie, as she preferred to be called, grew up in Virginia where her dad worked for the US government. The family moved to Wheaton, Illinois during her junior high years, moving back to Virginia her senior year.
Barbie and Ken met soon after high school and dated while attending Barrington College in Rhode Island, from which they both graduated, Barbie with a BS in Elementary Education. They began married life in Illinois, Barbie teaching in Palatine and Ken attending Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield.
Ministry opportunities took them back to Rhode Island to Barrington Baptist Church, where they started a family, Amy and Corrie. Ministry later took them to Massachusetts, California, Illinois, and Indiana— with Barbie always being a loving mom and supportive helpmate.
Barbie earned a Master's in Education from Cal State LA and, upon relocating to Illinois, continued her teaching career in Wheaton, where she taught for 21 years. The first year of her teaching contract, she and Ken were blessed with a third daughter, Darcie, God's sense of humor to the family.
Throughout her life, Barbie has always been passionate about three things. First, she was passionate about sharing the "good news" of Jesus with others, starting with her friend Patty through a back yard fence at the age of five. She served on evangelism teams in Barrington, Rhode Island and in San Gabriel, California. For more than 15 years she led Neighborhood Bible Clubs in Winfield, Illinois and Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Clubs in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Hundreds of kids came to faith in Christ through her ministry and influence.
She was passionate about kids, first her three daughters and then the students she taught in schools in Rhode Island, California, and Illinois. She always wanted the best for everyone in her class and made education fun. She went the extra mile for her girls—taking them to music lessons, ballet, gymnastics, T ball practice, or whatever they were pursuing. Ultimately, that meant releasing them to travel globally, Amy to Ukraine, Corrie to Malawi, and Darcie to Egypt. She held them tightly, but released them to serve and learn what God had for them.
Barbie was also passionate about World Mission and supported Ken in ministry that moved the family many times. She taught Missions Education for children and led seminars and published a book on the topic. She was an avid supporter of missionaries around the globe. On numerous occasions, she and Ken loaned cars to missionaries for months or years. That led to Barbie once calling a car salesman to say: "I've never bought my own car before, but we need one now since our car is on loan to a missionary for a year." God supplied a Mustang Convertible.
Barbie will be missed, but she leaves a rich legacy of faithful service as a passionate wife, mother, and servant of Jesus Christ, who has greeted her with "well done, good and faithful servant."
