Aileen Ashley, aged 92, a resident of Glen Ellyn, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. She was born on April 28,1926 in Oak Park, IL to Raymond and Sylvia Zender.

Aileen spent her early years living in Cicero, near her many aunts and uncles. When she was fourteen Aileen moved with her parents and her younger brother Phil to Oak Park where she lived until she married in 1950. She attended River Park High School and Rosary College. On January 4, 1950 Aileen married Don Ashley of Riverside, Illinois. Together they raised three children; Craig of Bixby, Oklahoma, Linda, (Robert) Houston of Aurora and Sue Barwick of Deerfield.

Aileen worked at the Wheaton School District Administration Office as a secretary for several years. When she retired she enjoyed playing golf, exercising, going to the theater and traveling with the Gadabouts, her parents, and her husband Don. After Don's death she moved to Aurora to be closer to her family and she became active with the senior center . She will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, generous, unselfish women who always put family first. She was loved deeply by all who had the fortune to know her.

In February Aileen moved to Maple Glen Memory Care Center in Glen Ellyn. She is survived by her brother Phil Zender of Bountiful, Utah, her children; Craig, Linda (Robert) and Sue, four grandchildren; Rob (Cathy), Michael (Colleen), Christina Houston and Kelly Barwick, six great-grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 11:30 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
