Samuel J. Doy, age 87, a resident of Wheaton and formally Savannah, Ga. passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday October 5, 2010. He was born in Chicago on August 24, 1923.
Samuel was a World War II veteran. During the war, he was involved in the D-Day invasion at Normandy and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained at The Moselle River assault located in du liard France.
Following the war, Samuel received his Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and earned a Jurist Doctorate from DePaul University. He was an Illinois Assistant Attorney General for 4 years. In 1961, he joined private practice and later formed Kane, Doy and Harrington which is still operating today. He retired from law in 1990.
He was an avid golfer, historian and die hard Chicago Cubs fan.
Samuel is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Mandy) Doy of Aurora, IL, and Brad (Lori) Doy of Downers Grove, IL; his sister, Athy Ames; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews; along with many great friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean of 37 years; his parents John and Stella Doy; his sister, Helen; two brother-in laws, George Ames and Samuel Kavathas; and his sister-in-law, Anne Jensen.
A visitation is scheduled for Monday October 11th from 4:30 – 6:30 at St. Matthew United Church of Christ, 1420 South Gables Blvd. Wheaton. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
