Irving Walter Woolf Jr.'s Obituary

Irving Walter Woolf Jr., 85, a longtime resident of the Wheaton area, died Wednesday, December 9 at the Wynscape Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton. He was born on March 19, 1924 in Chicago.

He graduated from Hyde Park High School and attended IL Institute of Technology before enlisting in the US Army during WWII. He served in the Army Air Corps stationed in Warrington, England where he met and married Ethel Churm. He returned to Chicago to work with his father in the advertising business. He developed the business and was one of the pioneers of the "Chicago School of Promotional Marketing" in the 1960's and 70's. In 1990 he retired and pursued his passions including travel, golf, fine dining, photography, and playing bridge and gin rummy. He was devoted to his family.

He was a member of Glen Oak Country Club, past master of the Wheaton Masonic Lodge, and lifetime member of the Shriners and Medinah Temple. He was also a member of the Chicago Advertising Association.

He is survived by three sons, Dr. Irving A. (Elsie) Woolf of Maple Grove, MN, Dr. Alan (Linda) Woolf of Melrose, MA, and Paul (Rebecca) Woolf of Oak Ridge, NC; son-in-law, Robert Hazen of Naperville, 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patsy Fridstein, brother-in-law, Arthur (Barbara) Churm, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ethel, and one daughter, Janice Hazen.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, at 11:00 A.M. at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
