Winifred Wagner Cole, age 86, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL died Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Windsor's Johnson Health Care Center. She was born on April 22, 1923 in Chicago, IL.
Wynne graduated from Wheaton College in 1945 with a BS in Physical Education. She was active in a number of ministries, including Stonecroft, and was a frequent speaker at Christian Women's Clubs around the country, as well as serving for a time as local president. She also worked for World Relief Corp. for almost 20 years in donor relations. Wynne was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Wheaton and served on the Alumni Board at Wheaton College. She enjoyed living at Windsor among several dear friends and family members. Throughout her life as a mother, a pastor's wife, a grandmother, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His Word. Third John verse four echoes her desire for her family: "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth".
She is survived by seven children, George (Lydia) Cole III of Ojai, CA, Beth (Dave) Thomson of Wheaton, IL, Candace (Greg) Davison of North East, MD, Gareth (Lynne) Cole of Williams Bay, WI, Skip (Karleen) Cole of Manitowoc, WI, Bradford (Pamela) Cole of East Stroudsburg, PA, and Pamela (Jay) Martin of Wheaton, IL; 23 grandchildren, Ross and Samantha Craton, George Cole IV, Shauna (Chad) Thorson, Ashley (Timothy) Sambrano, Taylor (Kate) and Wesley (Erin) Davison, Kelsey Cole and Mati and Alissa Novak, Trevor (JoAnna) and Evan (fianceé Megan Tulikangas) Cole, Emily, Hannah and Lily Cole-Chu, Jeremy Cole and Jessica (Ben) Dressler, Jacqueline (Jeb) Boyle and Jamison Cole, and Madelyn, Trey, Hartley and Cole Martin; 15 great-grandchildren, her sister, Marilyn McCracken; her sister-in-law, Martha (Robert) Baptista; her son-in-law, Lee Cole-Chu; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lea Weidner Smith; her second husband, George Alden Cole Jr.; and her daughter, Ruth Annabelle Cole-Chu.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 4, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Wheaton, 1310 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
