Henry Mork, age 83, a resident of Wheaton for 43 years, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Central Du Page Hospital. He was born on January 31, 1926, in Stavanger, Norway.

Henry lived through the German occupation of Norway during WWII and came to the United States as a student in 1947. He graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. degree in chemistry and went on to earn a MBA from the University of Chicago. He began his career at Quaker Oats Company and then worked for 40 years at Stepan Company, where he rose to the position of Vice-President of Corporate Manufacturing.

He served on the boards of various organizations and was greatly respected for his advice and counsel. He treasured his friends and family, especially his 8 grandchildren. He also enjoyed travel, winters in Florida and summers in Norway. He especially loved taking long walks on the beach in Florida with Esther, his devoted wife of 60 years.

Henry is survived by his wife, Esther, three children, Liz (Kevan) Thorwall, Robert (Lorraine) Mork both of Wheaton and Wendy(Russ) Austin of Bradenton, FL, eight grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Thorwall, Britt (Andrew) Faris, Morgan Thorwall, David (Kirsten) Mork, Brian Mork, Christopher Mork, Jon Austin and Kristen Austin, and one brother, Paul Mork of Stavanger, Norway.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd. in Wheaton. Interment will be held at Wheaton Cemetery.
