Gladys Hazlehurst Lockyer, "Gladdy-O", age 92, of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, formerly of Wheaton, died Friday, September 18. She was born on December 20, 1916 in Liverpool, England to Thomas and Mary Emma Hazlehurst.
She was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and a student at Northern Baptist Seminary and Northern Illinois University. In 1939 she married Herbert Lockyer Jr. Gladys worked at Scripture Press; was a proud retiree of United Airlines reservations; and was a longtime active member and deaconess of Wheaton Evangelical Free Church. She enjoyed working as an endearing Welcome Wagon Lady for many years.
Gladys was a faithful Christian, world traveler, great story-teller, had an active passion for life, and loving friend to everyone she met. Her favorite advice was"never give up, just keep going."
She is survive by two daughters, Karen (Jack) Schrader, and Brenda (Larry) Lewis; her devoted grandchildren, Beth (Henry) Simmons, Jonathan (Melissa) Schrader, Joel (Ana) Schrader, David (Emily) Lewis, and Daniel Lewis; and she was the proud great-grandmother of Abigail, Luke, & Isaac Schrader, Jackson, Zachary & Gracie Lewis, and Olivia Schrader. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton where a funeral will be held on Monday, September 28 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
