Faith P. Bathje, age 90, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born October 12, 1926 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada to Rudolph and Helene Brenner.
Faith worked as a school teacher at Grace Lutheran School in Chicago where she met Arnold Bathje, a school principal. They were married in 1951. They served Lutheran Schools in the Chicagoland area and in Hammond, IN.
She has been a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, where she was a member of the JOY group. Music was an important part of her life and she sang in many church choirs, which her husband directed. She was also a member of the DuPage Chorale for many years.
She is survived by her daughter-in-laws, Lois Bathje and Shirley Bathje, six grandchildren, David Bathje, Steve (Roxanne) Bathje, Lynn (Jack) Kidwell, Sandy (John) Oelschlaeger, Jody (Scott) Jackson, and Mark (Christy) Bathje, 12 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Lois Chandler and Marie Andermann and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, two step-sons, Arnold A. and Arthur G. Bathje, and her sisters, Ruth Grabowski and Irene Coleman.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 10 to 11 at St. John Lutheran Church, Main and Franklin St., Wheaton, were a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church or DuPage Convalescent Center.
