Edward P. Zimmerman, age 60, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born December 19, 1956 in Gary, IN.
Ed dedicated his career to the health and well-being of children, working passionately for 26 years at the American Academy of Pediatrics. As the Director of Practice Ed had an acute comprehension of healthcare finance, policy, and quality as it relates to pediatric practice. Prior to his career at the AAP he spent time at the American Hospital Association. Ed attained a bachelor's degree from Ripon College in 1979, a Health Systems Management Master's degree from Rush University in 1985, and worked on a Doctorate of Public Health through 1990 at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health. Ed's biggest passions were his cats and his books, and was often found curled up with a cat, a good book, and classical music. His greatest quality was his generosity to his friends and his family. He had a penchant for finding the perfect gift to match the personality of the recipient, and never expected anything in return. Ed will also be remembered as the sharpest dressed gentleman, always with exacting shades and tasteful hues. A true gentleman with a giant heart, Ed finished his book much too soon and will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his partner, Jim Provines of Wheaton; his three brothers, Robert (Leslie) Zimmerman of River Forest, IL, John (Pam) Zimmerman of Carol Stream, IL and Joseph (Lee Worthy) Zimmerman of Seattle, WA; four nieces and nephews, Thomas Zimmerman, Amy Zimmerman, Adam Zimmerman and Jennifer (Evan) Nimke; three grand-nephews, Grayson Nimke, Andrew Zimmerman and Brayden Nimke; and his loving cats, Daniel, Boone and Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen Zimmerman.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until the start of a memorial service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private.
