Harold Cline "Critt" Crittenden, Jr., a longtime resident of Wheaton, Illinois, died Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born June 16, 1925, in Whitesville, New York.
Mr. Crittenden worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. for 41 years, beginning as a farm store manager and retiring in 1988 as a hardware buyer.
He joined the Marine Corps in September, 1943, and was honorably discharged in July, 1952. He joined the First Presbyterian Church in the mid 1950's and served as an elder, youth leader and stewardship committee member. He worked in the regional expression of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as a commissioner from the church to Chicago Presbytery and from the Presbytery to the Synod of Lincoln Trails.
Critt did volunteer work with the Outreach Community Ministries for over 30 years. In 1992, Outreach created the 'Crittenden Spirit Award' to honor him and recognize volunteer leaders for exceptional service to the organization.
He is survived by two sons, David (Jackie) of New Albany, Indiana, and Charles (Julie) of Wheaton; three daughters, Holly (Philip) Hofreiter of Omaha, Nebraska, Carla (Joseph) Dettmer of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jill (Steve) Borchers of Richmond, Indiana; and a brother, William Crittenden of Canyon City, Oregon. He had 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Cline Crittenden, Sr. and Clio Ainsworth Crittenden; his wife, Allison Dewey Crittenden; and his sister, Wilma Jane Hazlett.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at
