It is with extreme sadness we share that on August 24, 2016, our beloved son and brother passed away. Matthew William Egler, age 25, went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 27, 1991. Matt fought so hard over the past 15 months at three different cancer centers, always trusting in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Matthew grew up in Crystal Lake and Elgin, Illinois. He attended Mission Church in Roselle IL and Westside Church while in Vancouver. Matt graduated from Wheaton Academy High School, Class of 2009. His passion for art and animation led him to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Animation from Full Sail University. At Full Sail Matt earned 3 Directors Awards for outstanding work and was the Salutatorian of his graduating class, August 2011. Matt started his career in Nashville working on projects for VeggieTales and Sesame Street. He went on to work in San Diego on multiple PS4 games including Uncharted 4 and The Order: 1886. In March 2014 Matt moved to Vancouver, BC where he worked in both television and feature animation on Slugterra, Endangered Species and Hotel Transylvania 2.
Matt was a very gifted artist, a loving son and brother, a faithful friend, and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Matt loved rock climbing, sailing, spike ball, finding new restaurants, movies, video games, and playing board games. His family and friends will always remember Matt for his creativity, wisdom, strong faith, gentleness, leadership and particularly his sense of humor. Matt is survived by his parents Scott and Lauren Egler, his siblings Mike, Adam and Ashley Egler; grandparents William and Sandra Rainey, Audrey Egler, Jack Egler; Aunts and Uncles Kaitlin (Glen) Rainey Strathy, Maureen (Brad) Lucas, Julia (Jon) Peterson, Suzanne (David) Dean, Amy (Bob) Genis, Dawn (Bob) Sandberg and many loving cousins.
We would like to thank our family, friends, prayer warriors and all those who donated to Matt's medical fund. Thank you to those who supported, loved, encouraged Matt and our family, sent cards, meals and care packages. It meant so much to Matt and our family.
