James E. Newman's Obituary
James E. Newman, age 69, a resident of Wheaton since 1984, died Wednesday, April 15 at home. He was born on August 5, 1939 in Mobile, AL.
He worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years. In 2000 he retired from FM Global Insurance Company.
Jim was a longtime member of the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, where he served as an Elder, Sunday School President, Treasurer, and usher. He was an active volunteer with JUST, where he served on as Chairman of the Board and led Bible Studies at the DuPage County Jail for over 20 years. He was an instructor and volunteer with CERT "Community Emergency Response Team." Jim was an active person who loved to bike and swim.
He is the beloved husband of Joan for 48 years, loving father of Cheryl (Jeff) Kirchman of Glen Ellyn and Donald (Sarah) Newman of Wheaton, proud grandfather of Katerina and Victoria Newman and Eric and Elise Kirchman, and dear brother of Jackie (Byron) Calhoun of Fairhope, AL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erich and Merle Neumann.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton, IL 60187 where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church.
