Kathryn F. Barber, aged 80, a resident of Winfield, IL, passed away peacefully with family on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born September 29, 1934 in Kenmare, ND to Tom and Elizabeth Fredenburg, later of Tucson, AZ.
Kathryn attended Grand Forks Central High School in North Dakota. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree (BS) at the University of Arizona in Tucson with a double major in Home Economics Education and Nutrition and Dietetics. She received an MS in Education from Northern Illinois University. Elected to the national honor society, Kappa Omicron Nu, she taught for over 30 years, with 25 of those at Franklin Middle School, Wheaton, IL. She and her husband were active in the UA Alumni Club.
Kathryn was a historical home restorer, a gifted artist who could reproduce oil paintings by eye, a talented singer and Fashion Show coordinator. She enjoyed volunteering within the community both at church and with the Girl Scouts, was President of the Illinois Home Economics Association, and worked with community leaders to regrade her neighborhood to prevent future flooding. She had a great sense of humor and great grace as a lady, mother, grandmother and friend.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, J.L. Barber, a Korean War veteran; son, Michael (Julia) Barber of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Barber of Winfield, IL; six granddaughters, Atalie (Ryan) Price, Rachel Barber, Anna (Stephen) Oborny; Grace Barber, Ryann Barber, Kate Barber; two great-grandchildren, Paetyn and Andie Price; her sister, Carol (Christopher) McGuire; and her brother, William (Carol) Fredenburg.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 22, 2015 at 12:45 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 715 N. Carlton Ave, Wheaton, IL.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 24, at 6:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tucson, AZ. Interment will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m. at South Lawn Cemetery in Tucson, AZ.
