Flossie Van Allen, 95, a resident of Wheaton since 1959, died Wednesday, December 10, at Alden Estates of Naperville. She was born September 15, 1913 in Yakima, WA.
Flossie worked at a number of jobs, including: working at a drugstore and a restaurant, being a switchboard operator at Pier 91 in Seattle, WA, a Rosie the Riveter for Boeing Aircraft, an assistant to the Dean at Washington Teacher's College, a school teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Iowa, a nanny, working at Pittsburgh Plate Glass, a Cook at a local airport, an assistant at a nursing home, and finally a job at Beeline Fashions.
She is survived by a daughter, Merril (Thomas) Tlusty of Glen Ellyn; a son, Michael Van Allen of Wheaton; a step-grandson, William (Valeria) Tlusty; three step-great grandchildren, Patty, Thomas and Jesse Tlusty; one step-great-great-granddaughter, Taylor; one sister, Evelyn Fikejs of Knoxville, IA; several nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Josie Swenson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; her brother, Forrest Swenson; and three sisters, Olive Johnson, Bernice Swenson, and Gayle Swenson.
Visitation for Flossie will be Sunday, December 14, from 3 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton where services will be held on Monday, December 15, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow the service at Wheaton Cemetery.
