Edward Kopman, age 61, a resident of Batavia, died Saturday, December 6 surrounded by family at the hospital. He was born on September 11, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Sam and Louise Kopman.
Ed graduated from East St. Louis Sr. High School, from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL and received his graduate degree from Washington State University in Pullman, WA. He retired after 27 years of service as a Lieutenant with the Carol Stream Police Department. In 2004 he graduated from Worsham School of Mortuary Science and became a licensed funeral director. He worked for Austin Livery, Knollcrest Funeral Home in Lombard and most recently at Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton.
He was dedicated member of numerous organizations including: Fraternal Order of Police, Du Page Police Association, the Carol Stream Police Pension Board, the Teamsters Union. He also was a faithful servant of Christ through the Batavia United Methodist Church, the Interfaith Food Pantry and other ministries.
He enjoyed the outdoors and volunteered his time at Yellowstone National Park and Big Sable Lighthouse in Ludington, MI. He also enjoyed traveling, attending White Sox games and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy, two children, Darryl (Carol) Kopman of Schaumburg, and Samantha (Jason) Schoenfelder of Chicago, one brother, Philip (Annette) Kopman of Longwood, FL, his brother-in-law, William (Jennifer) Neis of Richmond, IL and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Batavia United Methodist Church, 8N. Batavia Ave. in Batavia. Interment will follow at River HIlls Memorial Park in Batavia.
