Donaldo Lacera, age 48, a resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 12, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born January 15, 1966 in Colombia to Dr. Donaldo and Dr. Cristina Lacera.
He grew up in Flossmoor, Illinois and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago where he played football. He went on to graduate from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He worked for Lutheran Social Services and later worked as a Realtor.
He was diagnosed with M.S. in 2005. As his illness progressed and he was no longer able to work, Donaldo used his passion for people and his tender heart to serve the Lord.
He is survived by three children, Nina Shanklin, Melissa Shanklin and Landon Lacera; two grandchildren, Caleb and Wendy; his mother, Dr. Cristina Lacera; four siblings, Rocio Lacera, Maria Soderstrom, Bernardo Lacera and Dr. Jacquelyn Lacera; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Kelly, his father, Dr. Donaldo Lacera and his sister, Marta Maloney.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Community Fellowship Church, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m.
