Visitation for Gustav Runy Sigvard Fridstrom, 86, will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Wheaton, IL on Sunday, October 12th from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. Funeral Services will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home on Monday, October 13th at 11:00AM.
Gus passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at St. Anthony's Hospice in Crown Point, Indiana. He was born February 10, 1922 in Alingsas, Sweden to Karl & Alma Fridstrom and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1924. Gus (Swede) Fridstrom was a World War II veteran and served with the Coast Guard from 1942 – 1945. Most of his service was as a crew member on the USS Pettit, a destroyer escort which made 12 trips across the Atlantic. Following World War II, Gus had a 38 year career with Illinois Bell Telephone and AT&T in operations and in statistical & financial analysis. Gus was a committed follower of Jesus Christ and throughout his life was active in many churches as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, treasurer and various other support and administrative functions. These churches include Northside Gospel Center (Chicago, IL), Summerdale Evangelical Free Church (Chicago, IL), South Park Church (Park Ridge, IL), First Christian Missionary Alliance Church (Orlando, FL), and Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church (Knoxville, TN). In addition Gus was a supporter of many missionaries and missions around the world. Gus' home-going was preceded by Karl & Alma, his parents, Grace, his wife of 55 years, and Leonard, his brother. He is survived by his daughters--Donna (Jim) Lindell, and Cheryl (Mike) Mahoney; his grandchildren—Jenny Lindell, Jeff (Carri) Lindell, Kelly Mahoney, and Tracy (Gus) Arceo, and his great grandchildren—Tymon Lindell, Asher Lindell, Nathan Arceo and many other nieces, nephews and close friends.
