Thomas Paul Haigh, 71, of Wheaton, Illinois, passed away at Loyola University Medical Center surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 8, 2014 after a two week illness following a courageous five year battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Kankakee, IL.
Tom was a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, IL with an accounting degree. He was a Certified Public Accountant for 40 years. He began his career with a Savings and Loan, then a ten year career with the Internal Revenue Service as an auditor. He spent the last 28 years as Tax Director for Material Service Corporation in Chicago. He retired in 2005.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary Haigh and five children, Betsy Illingworth (David Waldschmidt) of Winfield, Steve (Liza) Haigh of Roselle, Brian (Sandi) Haigh of Streamwood, Janet (Brian) Willis of Yorkville, and Tim Haigh (friend Sandra) of Wheaton, 12 grandchildren, Steven (Becky) Illingworth, Tracey Illingworth, Jordan and Lauren Haigh, Anna, Tyler, Samantha and Michael Haigh, Caitlin Irvin and Bailey Willis, Michael Gilewicz and Jordan Haigh, and great-grandson Benjamin Illingworth. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Haigh of CA and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Hugh Haigh and his brother, Kenneth Haigh.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 N. West St. in Wheaton. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
