Harry Lawrence's Obituary

Harry Lawrence, age 90, a resident of the Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream for 14 years and formerly of Wheaton since 1951, died Thursday, July 17 at the Johnson Health Care Center at Windsor Park. He was born on January 2, 1918 in Chicago.
Born of humble beginnings and modest means of immigrant parents, he was largely self-taught with a thirst for education. In his early working years, he was a machinist and toolmaker. Without a formal degree, he rose to be Director of Engineering at toymaker, Strombecker Corporation. He later worked at Elgin Sweeper Company as an industrial engineer until his retirement.
Mr. Lawrence was a member of the Wheaton Bible Church for the past 57 years. He was active in the Bereans Sunday School Class and the Sanctuary Choir. He was an active member of the Windsor Park community where he served on the Resident Council, Chaired the Election Committee and pursued his passion for music through the choir, the Men's Chorus and the Handbell Choir.
He is survived by his children, David (Carolyn) Lawrence of Santa Ynez, CA and Karen (Richard) Berkowitz of Skokie, four grandchildren, Liz (Ryan) Jorden, Andrew Lawrence, Michelle (Zachary) Chartkoff, and Marc Berkowitz, two great-grandchildren, Graeme and Evan Jorden, three loving sisters, Minnie (Ray) Brubaker, Ruth (Alfred) Lissy, and Edith Lawrence, two dear sisters-in-law, Delores Lawrence and Gerry Schreiber and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne in 1997 and two brothers, Edvin and Arthur.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20 from 2 until 6 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park Manor, 120 Windsor Park Dr. at North Ave., (just west of Gary Ave.) in Carol Stream.
A private interment will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens in Oakbrook Terrace.
