George A. Cerny, age 86, a resident of Wheaton, IL, formerly of Berwyn, IL, died Tuesday, May 13, at the DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton. He was born October 21, 1921 in Chicago.
George served in the Army during World War II with the 365th Infantry Division. He was a 38 year veteran of WGN where he worked as a broadcast engineer.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane; four daughters, Eileen (Bob) Sejnost of Darien, IL, Peggy (Jim) Starr of Las Vegas, NV, Pat Cerny of Wheaton, Mary Jo (Bill) Witnik of Wheaton; his son, John (Karen) Cerny of West Chicago; and eight grandchildren, Amy (John) Kovacevic and Scott Sejnost, Ryan Starr, Christine, Melissa and Megan Witnik, and Katie and Jack Cerny.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 4-8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, at 10:30 A.M. Private interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
