Dorothy "Dottie" Norbeck's Obituary
Dorothy "Dottie" Norbeck, age 79, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, and formerly a longtime resident of Wheaton and Rockford, died suddenly, Friday, January 4, at the Central Du Page Hospital. She was born on March 13, 1928 in Gulfport, Mississippi to Hugh and Nora Randall.
Dottie graduated from Wheaton College in 1950, where she met Dr. David E. Norbeck. They were married in 1950 and resided in Wheaton, where they were active members of Glen Ellyn Covenant Church. She was a founding member of the Women's Auxiliary of Central Du Page Hospital in Winfield. She was vital in assisting her husband establish and run the Wheaton Medical Clinic. She taught P.E. in the Wheaton Public Schools and served on many committees at Wheaton Christian Grammar School, Wheaton Academy and Wheaton College, where she served on the Alumni Board and latter received the Distinguished Service to Family Award in .
In 1972 she and her family moved to Rockford, Illinois where she attended the First Covenant Church and First Evangelical Free Church of Rockford. She was an active volunteer at Rockford Christian Elementary School, Women's Medical Society, and at Guilford High School. She was motivated by a strong Christian faith and served as a longtime leader for Bible Study Fellowship.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. David E. Norbeck Sr., seven children, Nancy (Tim) Anderson of Northfield, Kathy (Dave) Tooley of Libertyville, Dr. David (Antoinette) Norbeck Jr. of Barrington, Susan (Jerry) Shelton of Wheaton, Karin (Doug) Smith of Dallas, TX, Randall (Kim) Norbeck of Winfield, and Kristin (Jeff) Wright of Highlands Ranch, CO, 16 grandchildren, and one sister, Helen Brownlee.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Estelle Lee.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 7, from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. Private interment will be held at the Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wheaton College Alumni Association, 501 College Avenue, Wheaton, IL 60187.
