Esther Mork, age 83, a resident of Wheaton for 45 years, died on April 10, 2012, at Central DuPage Hospital following a brief illness. A private family burial service was held on April 12 at Wheaton Cemetery.
Esther was born and raised in Stavanger, Norway. As a youngster, Esther lived through the German occupation of Norway during WWII. After the war, Esther moved to the United States with her fiancé, Henry Mork, also of Stavanger, Norway. The couple were married in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1949. Their marriage would last 60 years until Henry's death in 2009.
Esther was devoted to the Lord, and her faith played a fundamental role in her life. She also took great pride in her responsibility as a mother and homemaker. She cherished spending time with her family and especially enjoyed interacting with her grandchildren.
In later years, Esther and Henry made annual summer trips to Norway to visit family and friends. They spent winters at their condo in Florida walking on the beach together and watching sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.
Esther is survived by three children, Liz (Kevan) Thorwall, Robert (Lorraine) Mork, both of Wheaton, and Wendy (Russ) Austin, of Bradenton, Florida, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a sister in Stavanger, Norway.
