June Evangeline Nichols, age 81, a resident of Wheaton and formerly of the Boston area, died on Saturday, December 24, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born June 1, 1930 in Waltham, MA to Lloyd Andrew and Jennifer E. Burns.
She graduated from Waltham High School in 1948 and continued her education by taking night classes at Harvard College in Cambridge, MA. While attending Harvard she met her husband Herbert W. Nichols. The couple moved to the Chicago area after Herbert NIchols graduated from Harvard Law School. She was a devoted wife, and mother of five children.
June, or "June Bug" to her close family and friends, had a deep appreciation for the arts and literature which will continue to inspire her family and friends. She will be remembered for the poetic life she embraced and for the unyielding vision of the beauty that art and literature bring to our lives.
She is survived by her children, Herbert W. (Annette) Nichols Jr. of Golden Valley, MN, Andrew L. Nichols of Empire, MI, Jill (Russell) Kelley of Wheaton, and Jane (Dan) Filmer of Glen Ellyn, 7 grandchildren, Reid, Ross and Ryne Nichols, Ryan and Michael Kelley, and Elisabeth and Julia Filmer and one sister Sally Meaney of Atlanta, GA.
June was preceded in death by Herbert W. Nichols Sr., one son, Thomas Nichols, and her parents and two brothers, Fred and Robert Burns.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30, at 10:00 A.M., at First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, 535 Forest Avenue Glen Ellyn, IL 60137-4191. Friends may visit with the family following the service.
Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
