Yvonne Rish, age 89, a resident of Wyndemere in Wheaton, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Westbridge Assisted Living. She was born April 7, 1928 to Marius and Neva Fossenkemper in Highland Park, Michigan.
Yvonne was raised in Birmingham, Michigan, graduated from Kingswood School Cranbrook in 1945, and from the University of Michigan in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Languages. She then graduated from the U.S. Navy Officers Training School in 1951. She served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1953 as a WAVE Officer.
She enjoyed a long career with the YMCA in Elmhurst and Glen Ellyn,where she served as Associate Director and championed all aquatic programs. From 1975 until 1999, she worked part time for Central DuPage Hospital while working full time at Mona Kea Medical Park in Carol Stream as Condominium Administrator. While at Mona Kea she was also the Administrative Assistant for Orthopaedic Associates of DuPage. During retirement she worked part time as a receptionist for Westbridge Assisted Living for 8 years.
Yvonne was a proud supporter of the University of Michigan, particularly the varsity swimming program. As the daughter of Marius, first chair clarinetist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, she loved music. She was an accomplished pianist and cellist, and was a patron of the Chicago Symphony for many years. She enjoyed travel, especially to France and to University of Michigan Football games.
She is survived by four children, Marilyn Travetto of Greensboro, GA, Charles Rish of Elkhorn, WI, Deborah (Randy) Barnes of Bartlett, IL and Mary (Mike) Dauw of Saint Charles, IL, 11 grandchildren, Ross, Morgan, Justin, Lesley, Maddie, Matt, Mike, Brian, Casey, Curtis and Caitlin, and 9 great-grandchildren, Cole, Luke, Ava, Jackson, Cecilia, Owen, Ellie, Aida, and Isaac.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Rish, her parents and one sister, Janet.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187.
