Obituary

Wilma Vargas age 90, a resident of Saint Charles, IL, formerly a resident of Puerto Rico went to be with the Lord on August 13, 2024. She was born February 23, 1934 to Felipe Vargas and Margarita Ortiz in Humacao, Puerto Rico.

Wilma grew up in Puerto Rico where she got her Bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico. She married Gilberto Torres Flores in 1958 and began her family in the town of Aguirre where she developed life long friendships.

Wilma was a homemaker and a fabulous hostess. In 1969 they moved their young family to Alto Apolo, Guaynabo, where she had a close knit group of friends. She was well known for her delicious cooking and her humor. She also lived in Pine Grove, Isla Verde where she served on the HOA board and enjoyed the beach.

She loved to travel! Once she was an empty nester she became a travel agent. She was always ready for a trip and she saw the world. She relocated to the USA after her husband's death to be closer to her daughters and their families where everyone called her "Abuela".

Her love and curiosity for nature and people were insatiable, she enjoyed learning something new each day.

Her legacy, is her fierce love of family.

The family would like to thank all the people that cared for her and supported all of us throughout the years.

Wilma is survived by her children Wilma Walls (Timothy), Gisela Sabal (Michael), Gilberto Torres (Mari Carmen), Grandchildren Brian Sabal, Brennan Walls, Giselle Statz (Steven), Kathleen Walls, Kristen Beeler (Zachary), Maria Luisa Torres, Patricia Sabal, Great Grand Children Joseph James Statz, Gisela Rose Statz.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 yrs Gilberto Torres Flores (1995), her parents and siblings.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Lighthouse Hospice and Palliative Care who cared for her with joy and dignity and the American Liver Foundation who supports liver disease research, advocacy and education.
