William J.
Zurales
March 30, 1933 – May 13, 2017
William J. "Bill" Zurales, age 84, a longtime resident of Berwyn, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Wheaton, IL.
Bill is survived by his wife, Alvina, and two sons, John (Sue) Zurales and Jim (Deb) Zurales. He was grandfather of 5: Katie, Mark, Emily, Jeanie, and Tom Zurales. He is also survived by his sister Ann Katsenes and brother Leonard Zurales.
Bill was the son of Christ and Tula Zurales. He was the youngest of 9 brothers and sisters: George, Mike, Pete, Essie, Ann, Leonard, Spiro, and Helen. He was uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews. Bill was especially known for the family gatherings at the Southside home of his parents, and his devotion to his extended family. He coined many nicknames for nieces and nephews. There was always more food than you can imagine when Bill was involved, and everyone ate well. He was quick to help out in family situations. He loved to joke around and tell stories with his lifelong friend Vince.
He is fondly remembered by his grandchildren in whom he imparted his creative and imaginative spirit. As a grandfather, he created contests with prizes at family gatherings. Bill loved to play on the floor with the grandkids when they were young. He drew his famous "artwork" on cards that usually included the phrase "Ah-Da" which always brought a smile.
Bill served in the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.
A memorial visitation will be held, Wednesday, May 17 from 4-8pm at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N Main Street, Wheaton, IL to honor his memory.
