Obituary

William James (Bill) Moore, age 83, a resident of Wheaton IL, died peacefully on Saturday, September 8, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born June 7, 1929 in Chicago IL to William Chester Moore and Myrtle Swift Moore.

Bill was the youngest of eight children, two brothers and five sisters. He grew up living in Chicago. After losing both parents by the age of 12, he lived for a time with his sister and brother-in-law on their farm in Roselawn, Indiana. Later as a young man, Bill lived with different siblings, and held various jobs. In 1947, Bill was employed by Ace Frame & Axle Service in Chicago, where he learned the trade of frame and axle mechanic. In 1951 during the Korean War, Bill was drafted into the US Army. The Army recognized Bill's abilities as a mechanic, and he was sent to Europe instead of Korea, where he served his tour of duty as an instructor of automotive mechanics at the European Command Ordinance School in Eschwege, Germany. When his tour of duty ended, Bill resumed his career as a frame mechanic, which he did until retirement.

In 1954 Bill married Marion L. Lederer of Wheaton. Bill raised his family in Wheaton, where he and Marion lived for over 50 years. For many years Bill worked locally for Eddie Ruch Pontiac, and regularly attended Wheaton Bible Church. After retirement, he and Marion helped raise grandchildren and spent weekends in Dekalb IL with family, where they also became actively involved with Iglesia Cristiana Vida Nueva, a Hispanic Wesleyan church in Dekalb. Along with being devoted to family, Bill also loved fishing, gardening, and had a continuous interest in farming.

Bill is survived by wife Marion, and four children, David W (Deborah) Moore of Carol Stream, Katherine L. (Randall) Adams of Jacksonville FL, Dorothea L. (John) Barth of Dekalb, and Amanda L. (Andres) Umana of Cortland IL., ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 10:00AM at Dekalb Wesleyan Church, 1115 S Malta Rd, Dekalb IL 60115. Family and friends may visit with the family before and after the service.
