Obituary

William H. Kooser, age 78, resident of Huntley and former long-time resident of Wheaton, died Friday, March 26, 2010. He was born in Greensburg, PA, on October 20, 1931.

A graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and Rutgers University, Mr. Kooser went on to serve in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. An employee benefits consultant, he had a long and successful career as a Vice-President of Marsh & McLennan Companies.

Mr. Kooser had a life-long interest in history, particularly of the Civil War. He was recognized as a foremost authority on Milton Township's Civil War history and was active in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. A founding member of the Friends of Pioneer Cemeteries, Mr. Kooser was instrumental in the preservation and beautification of civil war cemeteries throughout Milton Township. A man of many talents, he was noted as a competitive bridge player, avid golfer, and recently active in community theater in Huntley.

He is survived by his two sons; William (Sally) Kooser and David (Kim) Kooser; two daughters, Kathryn (James) Beligratis and Mary (David) Evans; and five grandchildren, Allison and Shannon Kooser, Kristina and Steven Beligratis and Sean Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois "Sandy" M. Kooser and his parents William Johnston Kooser and Mary Ethel Cook.

A memorial visitation will be held Monday, April 5, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Wheaton, IL. 60187. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 715 N. Carlton Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187. A private interment will be at the Wheaton Cemetery.
