Obituary

William S. Jerdan, age 75, a resident of Warrenville, IL, died June 27, 2020.  He was born November 24, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William H.S. & Eleanor Jerdan.

Bill was a pastor to his core and this was expressed in all he was and did. He first began teaching and preaching as a teenager in the Reformed Episcopal churches in South Carolina. He earned a BA in Bible at Wheaton College (IL) and a MDiv from the Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Philadelphia (PA). Following ordination, he first served at St Luke's Reformed Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. In college he already felt called to serve the church overseas. In response to this calling, in 1972 he and Diane moved to France where they ministered with the Eglise Reformée Evangélique for 37 years. During this time, they worked in parishes in the cities of Massy, Berre-Marignane, Montpellier, and St Martin de Londres. Upon their return to the U.S. in 2009, Bill was named Executive Secretary for the Reformed Episcopal Board of Foreign Missions. In this role his pastoral care and concern extended to churches in Germany and Croatia within Europe, Cambodia in Southeast Asia, and Nepal in South Asia. He sought to facilitate communication among churches from many backgrounds and cultures. At the same time, he and Diane were involved in numerous teaching missions in French-speaking Africa for pastors of developing churches in Senegal, Togo, and Cote d'Ivoire. He was looking forward to another of these missions at the time of his diagnosis. Bill's pastoral heart wanted most of all to see God's people equipped and strengthened to do God's work well. His wisdom and gentle spirit worked to enable others towards more effective service. He was a caring shepherd always seeking above all to honor the Great Shepherd of the sheep.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane; his children Stephanie (Gabriel) Weckesser, Daniel (Dulcia) Jerdan, Benjamin (Sarah) Jerdan and Jonathan (Sara) Jerdan; and his 14 grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Bruce Jerdan, Barry (Nancy) Jerdan, Brian (Kathleen) Jerdan, Robert (Rhonda) Jerdan and Bonnie (Frank) Sayles.

Preceded in death by his grandson Josiah Weckesser.

Due to ongoing world health crisis, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
