William "Bill" Hoskins, age 83, a resident of Glen Ellyn, died Monday, October 9 at the Du Page Convalescent Center in Wheaton. He was born on July 27, 1923 in Chicago.
Bill served in the U.S. Naval Forces during WWII. He worked for International Harvester for many years, where he was the first African American to work in management. Eventually he became an entrepreneur who invested in the hotel business in the Chicagoland area. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Chicago and after relocating to Glen Ellyn became a member of First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruby, two children, Vivian Grandberry of Bolingbrook, and William (Michelle) Hoskins of Naperville, three grandchildren, Zachary Hoskins, John William Grandberry and Micaela Hoskins and many nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death parents, William and Vivian Hoskins and a sister, Lauralean.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 201 E. 95th St. in Chicago. Friends may visit with the family from 10 until 11 prior to the service.
