William "Bill" Ernest Falk, age 93, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2014 in his apartment at Brookdale of Glen Ellyn in Glen Ellyn, IL. He was formerly a resident in Sun City, Huntley, IL. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 24, 1921. His family moved near Rainbow Park in Chicago until he was eleven years old. He attended Bradwell School in Chicago. In the summer of 1932, his family moved to Loretta, Wisconsin where they farmed and had milk cows. He attended Draper Grade School and later Draper High School graduating President of his class in 1939. On October 27, 1942, he entered into active service in the United States Army Medical Corp as a Technician Fifth Grade, Carpenter General, assigned to the 116th General Hospital. The hospital was deployed to England where he created various furnishings and equipment for the hospital doctors, dentists and staff. While stationed in Europe, he assisted in repairs of buildings the hospital occupied.
During the war, Bill met and married the love of his life, a British servicewoman, Maisie Phyllis Johnson. Their wedding was in London, England on September 13, 1945. Near the end of WWII while still in England, he studied cabinetmaking through the Warton American Technical School. After the war, he returned to the United States with his wife arriving later on a ship for war brides. In the years following, they raised four children and lived in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, before moving to Wheaton in 1959.
Bill started as a carpenter by trade and worked up to construction superintendent at Red Seal Homes from 1967-1974, then Valenti Builders until he retired in 1983. After retiring, Bill and Maisie moved to Sun City, AZ. They loved traveling and did so together throughout the United States and Canada, and visited many countries including Scotland, England, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti. In 1996, they moved back to Illinois to be closer to family and lived in Rochelle and Huntley before moving into Brookdale of Glen Ellyn (formerly The Meadows of Glen Ellyn) in 2009. Bill was an active member of the residents' board at Brookdale. He was a hardworking, honest man who loved his family often making sacrifices in his own life to help them in theirs. He was a member in good standing with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America through Carpenters Local Union Number 558.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife. He is survived by his four children: Karen (Harry) McCulloch of Wheaton, Bill (Lydia) Falk of Arlington Heights, Bob Falk of Romeoville, and Sandy Falk of Geneva; five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Marianne Zett (nee Falk), of Loretta, Wisconsin. He was a wonderful dad and will be greatly missed.
