William V. "Bill" Hauke, age 79, a resident of Wheaton for 52 years, died Monday, January 3, at home. He was born on August 31, 1925 in Newark, NJ, the youngest of seven children to Egbert and Emilia Hauke.
Bill served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He attended Union College in New York, then received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. Among his accomplishments, Bill was Phi Beta Kappa and also a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries. He worked for Continental Assurance (CNA) for 25 years and rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Group Operations. He then went on to work for and retire from American Chambers Life Insurance Company. He enjoyed playing golf, VFW fish fries, and travel. He especially enjoyed being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elaine; his seven children, Karen Fenney of Wheaton, David (Susan Miraldi) of West Chicago, Stephan (Barbara) of North Yarmouth, ME, Cindy (John Wells) of Eugene, OR, Patty Mullins of Batavia, William (MaryBeth) of Wheaton, and Chris (Steve) Vallo of Ft. Myers, FL; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister; and one brother.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert; and four sisters.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, from 1-9 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton where prayers will be said on Thursday, January 6, at 9:15 A.M. before a funeral mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church, 101 West Loop Rd., in Wheaton. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
