Dr. Weldon L. Thomas, 91, a 57 year resident of Wheaton, IL. died peacefully in the presence of his loving wife and three adult children on October 19, 2017 at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL.

Born to Louis and Maud (Barton) Thomas in Fort Worth, Texas in 1926, Weldon grew up in Texas until moving with his family (age 7) to the Boise Valley in Idaho. Weldon with his wife Juanita (Stanton) Thomas raised their three children (Craig, Julie and Jim) while living in Wheaton since 1960.

Weldon graduated from Kuna High School in Idaho (1942) and attended the Albertson College of Idaho, graduating in 1948. His college career was interrupted by three years of service (WWII from 1944 to 1946) as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Infantry. Weldon attended the University of Chicago, School of Medicine from 1948 to 1952 earning his M.D. Degree. From 1953 until 1959, he completed his training and entered practice in Ophthalmology in Chicago. Weldon joined the recently formed Wheaton Eye Clinic as the third partner in 1960. He continued to work with the Clinic until retirement in 1999 completing almost 40 years of service as a caring physician.

Weldon was deeply involved in his Christian faith and found great comfort in scripture. As a husband, father, doctor, community member and church elder, he was always generous with his time and resources. Weldon had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and read widely throughout all of his years. While a doctor and surgeon by profession, he was also both a teacher and musician at heart. As a doctor he emphasized always developing a caring relationship with all of his patients.

Weldon is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita, three children, Craig (Gunilla) of Falun, Sweden; Julie (Brett) Hart of Lynchburg, VA, and James (Amy) of Essex, MA, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his brother C. Lloyd (Sharon) Thomas of Wheaton, sister, Mary Miller of Virginia, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Louis Thomas, Elmer Thomas and Eugene Thomas, and his sister, Lorraine Hosac.

A family reception will be held on Friday, October 27 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Community Fellowship Church, 28W240 North Avenue, West Chicago, IL 60185.
