Glassman
June 10, 1933 – January 16, 2026
Wayne O Glassman, age 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and business man, passed away peacefully January 16, 2026 in Batavia, Illinois. He was born June 10, 1933 in Michigan City, Indiana. In 1952 Wayne completed high school in LaPort, Indiana where he excelled in athletics and received All-American honors in football, and track and field for shot put. He received a full ride scholarship and graduated from Northwestern University in 1956 with a business degree and also completed Rotc training. In 1956 Wayne married his childhood sweetheart, Suzanne Clay, moved to Stockton, California and served 2 years in the US Navy with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Together they raised 3 boys. Wayne moved the family from California to Gary, Indiana then to Wheaton, Illinois then to Glen Ellyn, Illinois then to Hudson, Ohio and then back to Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He worked for several decades at Inland Steel Container where he rose to the title of VP of Operations. At the age of 50 he completed a Masters degree in business from University of Chicago. After retiring from Inland Steel, Wayne worked for several companies as a consultant. He then fired himself from each of those companies after they had met their goals. He was very good at what he did. Wayne eventually moved to The Holmstad, a retirement community in Batavia, Illinois where he lived out the rest of his days. He was very active there. Wayne loved his friends and his family, was patient and kind, and never missed a sporting event for his 3 boys. Wayne was a devout Christian and active in his church. He read his Bible daily and studied his devotions. He was proud of his accomplishments and his family. His passions were sailing, woodworking, painting, his summer home in Bethany Beach, Michigan, and his winters in Naples, Florida. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Suzanne; and is survived by his children Steve (Laura-deceased), Rick (Penny), Mark (Vonla) Glassman; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 soon to be great-grandchild.
A private burial will be held at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. A memorial service to celebrate Wayne's life will be held at a later date.
