Walter F. Weiss, age 82, a resident of Wheaton for more than 50 years, died peacefully Thursday, December 23, at the home that Ramona and Walt built. He was born June 16, 1922 in Hinsdale.
Walter served in the United States Army and was a decorated veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and worked as a Chemist his entire life until retirement in the 1980's. He was an avid gardener, woodworker, chef, dart ball player and all around putterer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many, many cherished friends. He was an active and faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton for over 50 years.
He is survived by his three children, David (Pat) of Roselle, Richard of Willowick, Ohio, and Kenneth (Melissa) of Palatine; five grandchildren, Steven, Scott, Anna, Daniel and Lora Weiss; and four siblings, Ralph (Lucy) Weiss, Ann Catris, Joanne DeVos, and Robert Weiss.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Ramona; his parents, John and Anna Weiss, and seven siblings, Eleanor Rimbey, Katherine Donovan, Grace Cox, Velma Cutler, John Weiss, Rev. George Weiss, and Andrew Weiss.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, from 3-8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 28, at 10:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, corner of Main and Seminary Streets, in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
