Walter E.
Miller
April 22, 1929 – January 30, 2020
Walter Miller, age 90, of Warrenville, IL, died peacefully at home on January 30, 2020.
Walter spent his early years in Southern Illinois and St. Louis, MO. He played on the varsity golf team in high school and was editor of the school newspaper. He was an Eagle Scout and later a Scout Master. In 1951, he graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a business degree. He completed the ROTC in college and entered the U.S. Army in August 1951, serving for 2 years. He was stationed in Korea from July 1952 to June 1953 and then served 6 years in the Missouri National Guard, attaining the rank of Captain.
In 1955, Walter married Jeanne Stultz, a "gorgeous redhead" who was completing her nurses' training at Deaconess Hospital. Walter was deeply committed to providing for their family, which grew to include two daughters and a son. His career included positions as a sporting goods and luggage buyer at Stix Baer & Fuller in St. Louis, account manager at Atlantic Products in Pennington, NJ, and sales representative for American Tourister in Brighton, MI. Walter and Jeanne forged close friendships in each location and were very involved in their church communities, where Walter was an Awana leader, church deacon, and chairman of the board of trustees.
After retirement, Walter and Jeanne moved to Warrenville, IL, to be near their children. For 10 years, Walter worked part-time at Tyndale Publishers and St. Andrews Golf Course. He loved playing golf with his friends, son, and grandchildren; participating in his Sunday school class and neighborhood bible study; and being involved in his grandchildren's lives. As his health declined, Walter maintained his caring nature and steadfast faith, continuing to set aside time each morning to read his Bible.
Walter is survived by his beloved bride of 64 years, Jeanne Miller; his three children, Michele (Mark) Norton, Jeff (Angel) Miller, and Pamela Hays; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Jon, Ben, and Daniel Norton, Brandi, Caleb, and Noah Miller, and Greta, Caroline, Alex (Amanda), Amanda (Warren), and Caleb Hays; and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Isabelle.
