W. James (Jim) Peterson,age 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Jim was born in Jamestown, NY Sept. 17, 1926.
He served in the U.S.Navy from 1944-1946. He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and taught at the University of Tennessee for a year before returning to marry his sweetheart, Marie Brown in Emporium PA. They loved to travel and visited many places including Italy, Budapest and Kenya.He worked for GTE Sylvania until retirement. After Marie passed he married a second time to Barbara Mungen
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton since 1962 and was an Elder and involved with the Stephen's Ministry and J.U.S.T., and volunteered at the DuPage Convalescent Home
Jim was a violinist with a beautiful tenor voice and the home was always filled with laughter and music. Many words describe Jim but those who knew him best always admired his sense of humor and his kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, four children: Karen(Francis) Woyome of Wheaton, Ann Giddings of Wellsville, NY, Stephen Peterson of Berwyn, and Christopher (Michele) Peterson of Decatur, IL and five grandchildren: Holly Woyome of Oak Park, Olivia Woyome of LA, Andrew Peterson of Nashville, Megan Peterson of Memphis, and Dawn Giddings of Wellsville, NY.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Peterson and infant son, Paul Douglas, and brothers John and Don.
A memorial service will be held on October 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 715 Carlton Ave., Wheaton.
